Before and After
Silicone implants were placed in a submuscular plane through an areolar incision in 2001. The patient is a smoker and reports the implants both became “rock hard” (Baker IV) soon after surgery (before images). The capsules were removed, the implant pockets lined with ADM, and new silicone implants placed in 2014. She still smokes but the implants remain very soft (Baker I) on both sides.
Saline implants were placed in a submuscular plane through an axillary incision in 2000. The implants became firm (Baker III) and in 2004 the capsules were removed through an areolar incision and the saline implants replaced with silicone (conventional treatment). Another capsule developed on the right side and this was treated by conventional methods again in 2005. Capsules gradually recurred on both sides (before images). Both capsules were removed for the third time, the implant pockets lined with ADM, and new silicone implants placed in 2017.
Saline implants were placed in a submuscular plane through an axillary incision in 1997. They were changed to silicone implants a year later due to rippling. Capsular contracture developed on both sides and she was treated by conventional methods in 2004. Capsular contracture (Baker IV) recurred on both sides (before images). The capsules were removed through the areolar incisions, the implant pockets lined with ADM, and new silicone implants placed in 2017.
Silicone implants were placed over the muscle through an areolar incision in 2010. The implants became firm (before images) and in 2016 both capsules were removed, the implant pockets lined with ADM, and new silicone implants placed.
Silicone implants were placed over the muscle (subfascial) through an areolar incision in 2010. The implants became firm (before images) and in 2017 both capsules were removed, the implant pockets lined with ADM, and new silicone implants placed.
Silicone implants were placed in a submuscular plane through an incision under the breast (inframammary) and changed three times due to repeated development of capsular contracture. The implants became firm again (before images) and in 2017 both capsules were removed, the implant pockets lined with ADM, and new silicone implants placed. This patient’s surgery is shown in the Procedure Video Section (Inframammary Approach).
Silicone implants were placed over the muscle and a mastopexy (breast lift) performed twelve years previously. Both implants became firm (before images). In 2018 both capsules were removed through a pre-existing scar under the breast (inframammary), the implant pockets converted to an under the muscle position, the pockets lined with ADM, and new silicone implants placed. The original implants were both found ruptured.
